La obra propone un gesto audaz y simbólico al fusionar dos tradiciones profundamente arraigadas en la cultura mexicana: las calaveras del Día de Muertos y los nacimientos tradicionales de Navidad. En este diálogo, las calaveras de azúcar dejan de ser únicamente un emblema funerario para convertirse en portadoras de espiritualidad, memoria y contemplación.
De estética monocromática y delicada, el nacimiento enfatiza la forma, la textura y el gesto, permitiendo que la fragilidad del azúcar transforme lo efímero en un acto poético. Entre la tradición popular y una lectura contemporánea, esta obra resignifica ambos rituales desde el lenguaje del arte, proponiendo una visión íntima, reflexiva y profundamente mexicana.
composed of sugar skulls, is a one-of-a-kind piece crafted entirely from sugar using traditional alfeñique techniques, taken to a sculptural scale with a high level of detail. Each figure, while part of a collective scene, is conceived as an individual work within an intimate and solemn composition.
The work proposes a bold and symbolic gesture by merging two deeply rooted Mexican traditions: the Day of the Dead sugar skulls and traditional Christmas nativities. Within this dialogue, the sugar skulls move beyond their funerary symbolism to become vessels of spirituality, memory, and contemplation.
With a monochromatic and delicate aesthetic, the nativity emphasizes form, texture, and gesture, allowing the fragility of sugar to transform ephemerality into a poetic act. Situated between popular tradition and a contemporary reading, this work redefines both rituals through the language of art, offering an intimate, reflective, and profoundly Mexican vision.
